How we started
Founded by Haslam students in 2010 by Kathy Wood, the Management Society at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville is 100% student-led organization working to empower and to connect young professionals, and we strive to keep it that way.
Our Mission
The Management Society at the University of Tennessee is a professional, student-led organization whose goal is to foster the personal and professional development of the organization's members for careers in business. By building relationships with industry leaders, young business professionals, and fellow students, the Management Society promotes an environment where members obtain insightful knowledge and skills to assist them in the professional workspace and social spaces.
What we do
As an organization dedicated to giving back, the club donated nearly $2,000 to its philanthropic partner, Mobile Meals, over the 2019-2020 academic year and plans to expand its philanthropic activity in the future.
By hosting members-only networking events and professional development opportunities, the Management Society empowers its members to build applicable skills to build them up for success in professional environments.
To aide and prepare college students for their future career, we frequently host professional development workshops led by prominent employers, UT-faculty, and staff from the Office of Career Development.
Through dynamic speakers, from both the academic and corporate arenas, members receive direct insight from various industries, which is hosted multiple times throughout each semester.
Operated solely by students, the Management Society helps shape its members from young adults to well-rounded business professionals through applied leadership development and organizational involvement.
Through a deliberately-built network and strategic corporate partnerships, we provide members with connections to top companies for summer internships and post-graduate job opportunities.
Faculty Sponsor
Dr. Tara Mohrfeld is our newest and current Faculty Sponsor of the Management Society at UT as of Fall 2022. Dr. Mohrfeld is a current lecturer within the Management & Entrepreneurship Department. She was a Director of Academic and Student Services, Graduate Business Programs for 5 years.
Dr. Mohrfeld has been awarded the Outstanding Service Award in 2020, the UTK Leadership Program in 2017, and the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Executive Education in 2010.

Dr. Jackie Jacobs served as the Faculty Sponsor of the Management Society at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville from 2016 to 2022.
Dr. Jacobs is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Management and the 2015 recipient of the prestigious Haslam College of Business Allen H. Keally Excellence in Teaching Award. In addition, Dr. Jacobs is the 2018 recipient of the Richard C. Reizenstein Award for Outstanding Commitment to Students for her work with the UT Management Society.
